STOURPORT Swifts can take the scalp of promotion-chasing Chippenham Town after matching them earlier in the season, according to boss Tim Langford.

Swifts lost 1-0 at second-placed Chippenham in late December but have the chance for Dr Martens Western Division revenge at Walshes Meadow on Saturday.

They picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Shepshed Dynamo last weekend with a patched-up side.

Adam Nicholls and Simon Marsh were missing so defender Nigel Laker was called up and veteran coach John Powell made a brief appearance off the bench.

Langford also gave a substitute role to young winger Ben McCloughlan who plays for Bewdley Town in the West Midlands League.

But his attempts to sign Kidderminster Harriers players Ben Davies and Andy Corbett on loan failed last week when they turned down the move.

With A Nicholls (ankle) and forward Andy Wright (hamstring) possible doubts for Saturday, Swifts are still pursuing a permanent and loan signing.

Langford said: "It is a big game and we proved we can match Chippenham in all departments when we played down there. That game could have gone either way.

"It would be a good scalp for us to get and we have to be confident otherwise there would be no point in turning up.

"We have got around nine games out of our last 16 at home and have to take advantage of them.

"If we had won at Shepshed, we could have gone up towards the top six again. But it's tight and we could get dragged down the table by not winning."

The versatile Marsh will be back for Saturday and may be needed in attack with Langford still missing with a hamstring strain.

But a big surprise at Shepshed was the inclusion of striker Powell who used to play for Harriers.

Langford admitted: "John coaches and joins in with games during training. He was a good player in his day!

"We hope to keep Ben McCloughlan training with us. Jan Mulders brought him along. He has two good feet and looks a good prospect."

Meanwhile, the competitive Asa Charlton has replaced Lea Shaw as captain with Langford confident of a good response.

He explained: "I just wanted to give Asa a bit more responsibility. He has nine bookings already this season and another one could mean two or three games out. He has been tremendous this season though."

Swifts, who are 11th in the league, travel to Phil Mullen's Evesham United on Tuesday (7.45pm).
