STRUGGLING Stourport Swifts contrived to throw away three precious Dr Martens Western Division points as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to county rivals Redditch United.

Swifts roared into a two-goal lead only for former manager Rod Brown to see his Redditch side snatch victory with an injury time winner from striker Jimmy Quiggin.

Simon Marsh gave the hosts a dream start, scoring after just three minutes when the visiting back-line failed to deal with a John Shirley centre.

There was little between the sides and United almost equalised in the 18th minute.

Former Walshes Meadow favourite Alex Cowley went on a trademark mazy run before squaring for winger Matty Hall to crash a shot against Rob Clarke's bar.

Substitute Peter Sutton, one of four ex-Reds in the Stourport squad, should have done better in first half injury time but atoned for his miss with a delightful lob over United keeper Richard Anstiss for the second goal in the 54th minute.

Sutton went over to celebrate in front of the United bench but his joy was short-lived as Cowley, who switched to Redditch for £1,000 in the close season, showed his worth.

He embarked on a tremendous run through the home defence, ending with a shot into the bottom corner in the 63rd minute.

Keeper Clarke got a hand to that effort and was again unlucky when the visitors struck the equaliser six minutes later.

He saved Quiggin's shot only for loan star Simon Hollis to rifle in the rebound for his seventh goal in five matches.

Stourport's misery was complete in injury time when Hall's cross was delicately flicked home by Quiggin.
