Pershore 1 West Brom 1

PERSHORE dropped only their second point of the season to a good West Brom side that has got better as the season has progressed.

A goalless first half saw a period of sustained pressure from the visitors who found the home defence at their most resilient.

Having failed to score, they allowed Pershore to come back into the game and the home side well have taken the lead if a crossfield pass from Jamie Hughes had found brother, Matt more quickly.

As it happened, the West Brom keeper made a confident save to ensure the game was finely balanced at half-time.

The second half saw Pershore very much in the ascendancy, creating a series of good openings, but for once their free-scoring forwards failed to take their chances in the face of some strong and occasionally over robust tackling which resulted in several home players being tumbled over in full flight.

Surprisingly, no temporary suspensions were dished out!

With five minutes to go, Pershore finally made the breakthrough when a fierce shot from Matt Hughes found the net through a crowd of players.

Unfortunately, this only served to galvanise the opposition who equalised with only 90 seconds remaining following a deflected pass that left the centre forward with an open goal.

So Pershore's reign at the top of the DTZ League table was ended with Whitchurch winning at Newtown and they will now have to realise that they have to work hard in all games and not expect every week to be an easy ride.

They have the chance to make swift amends against Aston University on Saturday.

Pershore III 3, Streetly III 3

STREETLY came from 3 -1 down to draw this DTZ league game at Malvern on Saturday, taking advantage of a tiring Pershore side that had been on top for most of the match.

Streetly started strongly without really testing goalkeeper Graham and Pershore could easily have taken the lead with Ingram powering a shot from the edge of the circle that drew a good save from the visiting keeper.

Streetly eventually took the lead with a well-struck shot which found the inside of the right-hand post.

This stirred Pershore into action and, within five minutes, they were level as Curley converted a complicated short-corner routine.

Pershore were now rampant and Andrews quickly made it 3 -1 with two excellent finishes from moves initiated by Rob Handley.

The second half continued in the same vein, but gradually the Pershore midfield tired and Streetly took advantage bringing on three substitutes.

Even so the home defence held out until near the end when another short corner conversion made it 3-2 and a snapshot then levelled the scores.
