A REDUNDANT barn and part of a farmyard at Wormington, Broadway, is set for a new lease of life as a one-bedroom cottage and garden.
A government inspector, Chris Ball has allowed the appeal by Cox Homes on behalf of Pearce Construction (Midlands) Ltd, of Evesham, against the refusal of Tewkesbury Borough Council to give planning permission for the conversion at Wormington Farm.
The council claimed the barn was in open countryside and would need extensive rebuilding, but Mr Ball said it was an integral part of the original form of the settlement, and, while it might be at the limits of acceptability, the degree of alteration would not be so substantial that rejection was warranted.
He said: "I find overall that residential conversion of this barn is acceptable in this location and that the proposed conversion work would retain the character and traditional appearance of the building."
An application for a full award of costs against the council by Cox Homes was refused by Mr Ball who ruled that the council had not acted unreasonably.
