EVESHAM fire fighters could return to the picket lines unless last-ditch government talks are successful.
Evesham Sub Officer Julian Jenkins, of White Watch, said that fire fighters at the Merstow Green Station could join a planned eight-day strike starting tomorrow. "We always hope that we do not have to go on strike," he said. "We put a pay claim on the table and it was thrown back at us but talks currently underway could still avert this action."
Green Watch Sub Officer Mr Mel Turbutt, chairman of The Fire Brigades union in Evesham, said his colleagues had been overwhelmed by the public support.
"People have been sending us letters, telephoning us and even bringing food and drink out to the picket line," he said. "We would like to say a big thank you to everybody."
