MOTORSPORT: Karting star Nathan Freke needs a top-three place in the final two races to guarantee him the 125cc direct drive Rotax Max class club championship.
Freke remained in line for the title by finishing a final fourth and beating his main rival at Shenington Raceway.
Although testing went well, the Kidderminster teenager's kart developed a problem during warm-up and would not handle properly.
Freke recovered well for fourth in the first heat after a collision with another driver forced him to leave the track.
He clinched grid five for the A final after using all his ability to motor up to 10th in the second heat from the back.
And Freke did well enough to leave him in a strong position in the championship.
Meanwhile, he tested the Century Motorsport Formula Ford 1600 at Mallory Park, his first time driving a race car in wet conditions.
The team's manager felt Freke's experience in kart driving on car tracks has given him good insight into racing lines.
