JUDO: Villains may be better off avoiding Samurai Judo Club policewoman Debbie Read after she won the British Police Judo Championships.
Read, a second-level black belt, has been with the Samurai since she was eight years old.
Her long career has also seen gold medals in the British Junior National Championships and the British University Championships.
Samurai's Martin Brown added a bronze in the men's light-heavyweights, suffering his only defeat of the day in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the up-and-coming junior boys picked up seven medals at a junior limited grade championships.
Lewis Osman-Moore led the way with a series of excellent maximum-point throws but lost out in the final to a Leicestershire opponent.
Brothers Callum and Matthew Lowe won bronzes with the latter beating a series of higher-graded opponents before a semi-final defeat to an Essex boy.
Super-lightweight Steven Wagstaff pulled off an excellent throw against a much-heavier player to secure his bronze.
There was a brave display by Wesley Connor who fought several weight groups above his own and still took a bronze.
Third places also went to Samurai's Ryan Pitcock and Gary Jones in the heavier weight groups but Jonathan Green was unlucky to miss out, finishing fifth.
