HOCKEY: Relegation fears intensified as Stourport lost a vital National League Division One six-pointer 2-1 at Brooklands despite taking the lead.

Imran Yousaf's sixth goal for the club from a penalty corner on 15 minutes put Stourport in a good position but they failed to capitalise.

Confidence was high after an away draw at Belper but Brooklands were also desperate for points and they took advantage of their chances and the visitors' inability to break down defences.

Stourport are now five points adrift at the bottom of the table and need a result at table-toppers Old Loughtonians on Saturday.

West Bridgford 2 Stourport 2nds 1

The seconds, expecting a fairly easy match, were forced to make several changes and found their hard-working hosts tough to open up.

Their finishing let them down and Ian Evans had to make several saves as the Nottingham side picked off poor passes.

Nick Chambers hit the bar with a close-range shot but Stourport's new defensive line-up looked shaky and was breached late in the first half.

Seconds debutant Steve Odell set up Steve Ellis to roll home the equaliser but West Bridgford quickly regained the lead and Stourport had captain Tom White sent off for dissent.

Shrewsbury 0 Stourport 3rds 6

David Knott led Stourport's domination with his lethal finishing racking up four goals, including an exceptional final effort when he beat defenders to smash the ball past the helpless keeper.

Dominic Roberts scored when his intended pass to Knott was deflected into the net by the Shrewsbury goalkeeper and the win was wrapped up by Mark McKinnon.

Worcester 2 Stourport 4ths 3

The fourths maintained their 100 per cent record for the season in the closest match yet with goals from Steve Taylor, John Shackleton and Godfrey Lamb.

They claimed the points in the face of spirited resistance with youngsters Luke Carless and Luke Martin the best players.

Olton & West Warwickshire 3 Stourport 5ths 4

Stourport's strong team triumphed over veteran opponents with Alex Vale's two-goal display earning him man-of-the-match.

Robin Conway and Peter Mills were both on the score-sheet again with the latter showing some deft footwork.

But it was Vale and Gareth Pritchard who broke Olton down with superb running off the ball.

Kings Heath Pickwick 2 Stourport 6ths 3

The return of Frank Colwill was instrumental as he scored two goals for a young Stourport team who did well to maintain their composure.

And the highlight of the afternoon was a contender for goal of the season by Ben Kenyon.

Camp Hill 0 Stourport Ladies 1

Kate Bailey's goal was decisive in Worcestershire Division One but Stourport had several good chances to increase the score-line.

They did get the ball into the net before the interval but the goal was disallowed, while Wilma Martin, Sarah Bentley and Bailey all nearly scored.

But Bailey's 47th-minute strike ensured another vital three points in the quest for promotion as Stourport head to Bromsgrove on Saturday.

Stourport 2nds 3 Cresconians 1

Stourport recovered from a one-goal deficit to win a match following a lack-lustre opening.

The first half was goal-less but Stourport came out battling after the break.

Cresconians took the lead against the run of play but Stourport replied in the 47th minute when Katie Clowes scored from a short-corner.

Teri Baron sealed the points for Stourport with two goals, her second coming in the 63rd minute.

Malvern 1 Stourport 3rds 1

Both sides contributed to an end-to-end Worcestershire Division Three encounter with Stourport taking the lead late in the first half.

Lucy Holmes finished off a move in style but Malvern pushed for the equaliser and hit the post.

It was a defensive error by centre-back Sara Jennings that resulted in Malvern's goal when she pushed the ball back across the D for an incoming opponent to score.

Stourport Blue Badgers 1

Stourport White Badgers 2

The two Badgers teams face each other twice a season under the current initiative by Worcestershire Hockey for junior Saturday matches.

The well-matched teams contested an end-to-end game with the Whites just edging victory thanks to goals from Sam Owen-Smith and Oliver Butler. Max Totney replied for the Blues.
