BADSEY SOCIETY: The society's final event of its inaugural year took place at Badsey First School on Friday evening. A talk by local historian and author, Terry Sparrow, on the Rise and Fall of Market Gardening was well received by an audience which included many past and present Vale market gardeners. Society chairman Tony Jerram thanked the speaker and outlined the proposed events for 2003. These include the making of a video of asparagus growing in Badsey, a treasure hunt, quizzes, and competitions to design village postcards and Christmas cards. Mr Jerram, who is stepping down as chairman at the annual meeting, says that it is hoped that the society's committee can be enlarged to involve more members who will no doubt bring along new ideas. The date for the annual meeting has provisionally been set for Valentines Day, February 14, 2003.
