Sikh Union II 1, Evesham II 1

THIS was an important game for the visitors against their fellow promotion hopefuls.

The first half was full of action from both sides, but it was the hosts who took the lead.

This didn't faze Evesham and they began to pile on the pressure with strong linking runs from Kevin Jobson and John Vicory.

The equaliser came courtesy of a short corner routine that was cleverly put away by Julian Newman.

Union became frustrated with lack of second half opportunities as Evesham's solid defence, controlled well by Neil Sollis and Mark Paine, ensured parity was maintained.

Paine received a yellow card for a late colliding tackle in a match that was full of action with three penalty strokes, numerous short corners and three more yellows issued.

There outstanding performances from newcomer Bob Leighton, Phil Wood and goalkeeper Guy Cassey.

The club's Under 17s ladies side drew 2-2 with their Bretforton counterparts.

Emma Barker and Melissa Curnock were on target for Evesham who played the match with only nine players against a full complement in their opposition ranks.

Overall, Evesham had most of the play and played well as a team with Barker earning the player of the match vote.
