Bretforton Ladies 0, Marlborough 0

A KEENLY contested match involving two unbeaten sides ended in a predictable stalemate.

Good attacking play down the right from Lisa Workman and Deb Slatter created a number of opportunities for Bretforton and Gilly Wright was unlucky not to score from a good ball across the goal by Workman.

Fiona Baldelli was also kept busy in goal and was forced into a number of important saves.

Excellent work by defenders Jane Wheeler, Bobbie Handley, Julie Stowe and Blanche Surman, who had their work cut out but managed to thwart a number of strong attacks by the Wiltshire visitors.

Good midfield play by Sophie Corbett and Sarah Adams kept the pressure on Marlborough but goals weren't forthcoming and both sides had to settle for a point.

Workman was the player of the match in a game in which the ball was sponsored by Tom Handley.

Bretforton II 3, Badgers 1

THE first half saw Bretforton waste two early opportunities in a game sponsored by Roger Knight when Sarah Bragg blundered right in front of an open goal.

Tracey Hodgkins, however, managed to chip in the opener from a far more difficult position in a crowded area.

Badgers of Brockworth replied with numerous attempts on goal but were denied by stout defence and some fine saves by player of the match Fiona Jordan.

The second half saw both sides create chances and Bretforton in particular tested the Badgers' keeper.

It was by no means the first goalmouth scramble that produced Bretforton's second goal as Bragg made up for earlier errors.

Dawn Thatcher was unlucky not to get her name on the scoresheet when a shot from a penalty corner flew inches wide of the left-hand post.

The next attack proved successful, though, as Julie Hall set up Bragg to hit home the third.

At the other end, Badgers were rewarded with a late consolation goal which flew in off the keeper's pads.
