Bretforton II 3, Badgers 1

THE first half saw Bretforton waste two early opportunities in a game sponsored by Roger Knight when Sarah Bragg blundered right in front of an open goal.

Tracey Hodgkins, however, managed to chip in the opener from a far more difficult position in a crowded area.

Badgers of Brockworth replied with numerous attempts on goal but were denied by stout defence and some fine saves by player of the match Fiona Jordan.

The second half saw both sides create chances and Bretforton in particular tested the Badgers' keeper.

It was by no means the first goalmouth scramble that produced Bretforton's second goal as Bragg made up for earlier errors.

Dawn Thatcher was unlucky not to get her name on the scoresheet when a shot from a penalty corner flew inches wide of the left-hand post.

The next attack proved successful, though, as Julie Hall set up Bragg to hit home the third.

At the other end, Badgers were rewarded with a late consolation goal which flew in off the keeper's pads.

Bretforton, sponsored by Fairview Trading Co Ltd, travel to Stroud Leisure Centre this weekend to play Dursley in the league.

The club's junior players were out in force on Sunday morning when the Under-16s drew 2-2 with Evesham in an opening friendly of the season.

Liz Murray-White gave the villagers the lead after good work from Sammy Trotman.

Kaye Amphlett and Pippa Moore both had their work cut out in preventing an equaliser that finally came after sustained pressure.

Trotman regained Bretforton's lead with a deflected strike but it wasn't to prove enough as game Evesham hit back to earn a share of the spoils.
