A CENTURY ago this week, Berrow's Worcester Journal reported on "a sensational incident which occurred in Broad Street on Wednesday''.
"A horse attached to a cart loaded with coke and belonging to Mr F. Harber, of Broadheath, bolted in Broad Street near the Unicorn public house. At All Hallows the driver let go, but a serious accident was averted by PC Mound, who managed to get hold of the reins and eventually pulled up the runaway in Bridge Street.
"A large number of bystanders witnessed the incident, and the constable's conduct called forth plaudits from the crowd."
