A WORCESTER company has come away from a prestigious national awards ceremony with three separate gongs.

BizzEnergy won all three of the categories it entered in the Sage Business Awards, which were run in partnership with the Daily Telegraph.

"It was amazing - they just kept calling out BizzEnergy," said Sussanne Chambers, director of marketing, following the awards ceremony in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

"We were the most successful company of the evening. We're absolutely delighted. It's really down to the hard work of all the staff at BizzEnergy and their determination to do the job in the best way possible."

The electricity supply company picked up the Growth Through Technology award for businesses with up to 100 employees.

The company, based on the Berkeley Business Park, Warndon, won the award for its streamlined, internet-enabled systems.

Customers only have to input a minimum amount of information to obtain a quote for the supply of energy, with 87 per cent of customers receiving a quote in less than five minutes.

BizzEnergy, which employs almost 50 people, also took the award for the Fastest Growing company.

The company's turnover leapt from £17.8m a year in April 2002 to £80m a year this month.

New clients that have come on board with the company - which only supplies businesses - include the Environment Agency, MFI, The King's School, Worcester, and Birmingham University.

BizzEnergy's chief executive, Eddie Hyams, also carried off the award for Best Business Leader, an accolade he was nominated for by his employees.

Qualities the judges were looking for in this category included vision, influence, dedication, an ability to communicate at all levels and treating people with fairness and respect.

Mr Hyams was at the awards ceremony to collect his prize himself, accompanied by Ms Chambers and Ken Marchant, the firm's technical officer.

Three employees also attended the event - at which Ricky Gervais, from BBC 2's The Office, was guest speaker - after their names were drawn out of a hat.

They were Vikki Wright, Simon Dukes and Stephen Egginton.

Andrew Buckley, marketing director of Sage, said the award categories were designed to cover all the elements critical to success in the modern business world.

"The diversity of British industry was reinforced in the diversity of the award-winners, from bras and call centres to office supplies, electricity and plants-by-post."
