Anne Widdecombe will be visiting Malvern Theatres to answer questions and share anecdotes.

Miss Widdecombe, who is said to have delighted Conservative Association audiences across the land with her witty and controversial speeches, will be in conversation with Radio 5 Live's Iain Dale. Her talk is at 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 5.

After becoming a district councillor for Runnymede in 1976, Miss Widdecombe then contested the seat for Burnley in the 1979 general election. She halved the Labour majority there before being elected MP for Maidstone. In Government, she served on the Select Committee for Social Services and sponsored several bills on topics such as school bus passes and regional health authorities.

Between 1990 and 1994 she held the positions of Under Secretary of State at the Department of Employment and then the Home Office, a position she held until 1997, when she was elected MP for Maidstone and the Weald.

Her final political position was as Shadow Home Secretary. In 2001 she announced her decision to retire from that cabinet citing the wish to be able to speak on issues she feels strongly about without the constraints of being a front bencher. Writing now forms much of Miss Widdecombe's new career, with her best selling first novel The Clematis Tree being published in April 2000. Earlier this year her second novel, An Act of Treachery, was published. She is now engaged in writing her third novel, The Idealists.

Tickets for the talk are £8 from 01684 892277 or www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
