"REMARKABLE and gorgeous sunsets" were reported in a letter in the Gazette a century ago.
Vincent Saulez of West Malvern wrote of one on October 28, which "was followed by a very wonderful afterglow".
"At about 8pm there appeared in the horizon, apparently where the sun had set, a vivid centre light, and from it radiated to right and left a considerable distance long thin lines of a reddish yellow colour. This extraordinary light was seen for about two hours, sometimes more and sometimes less vivid, but always retaining the same weird and remarkable appearance."
