BADSEY RANGERS RESERVES 4, WEST MALVERN 4 (Badsey won 4-2 on penalties)

THREE minutes from winning this WFA Minor Cup tie, West Malvern were finally beaten in a penalty shoot-out after a dramatic match.

Forced to make numerous changes due to three players dropping out on Saturday morning, the West put up a splendid performance.

The West got off to a cracking start with Lee Tracey scoring inside ten minutes. He then converted a through ball from Graham MacLennan to make it 2-0.

With Tracey and Will Hardy creating numerous problems for the Badsey defence it always looked as though the West were going to score. But with five minutes to go to half time Badsey reduced the arrears.

The second half started brightly for the West when Lee Tracey dispossessed the goalkeeper to score number three.

Badsey came back strongly to score again but West looked as if they were going to go through when, in the 87th minute, Badsey were awarded a penalty

from a disputed hand ball, scoring from the resulting spot kick.

With the game in extra time, Lee Tracey scored his fourth to put the West back in front, but within a minute Badsey had equalised. Incredibly, Tracey thought he had scored a fifth goal, only to have it disallowed.

Although both teams fought gallantly for a winner the final score after extra time was 4-4.

West started badly in the penalty shoot out with skipper Andy Pugh missing the first. Although Lee Tracey and then Dan Sullivan both scored Gary Portman missed the fourth to see Badsey through.

It was a creditable performance for the West, sponsored by Amey, who played exceptionally well but just failed to make the most of the chances they created. West have no game on Saturday.
