I WOULD like to respond to recent correspondence regarding the proposed Lidl development in Malvern Link.

We already have three supermarkets within a short distance of the proposed new store and it was proved in the petition carried out in the immediate area of Worcester Road last year that the residents in this part of Malvern Link do not want a supermarket on this site.

As a matter of interest the result of this petition was: against Lidl 810, for Lidl 18.

The main reason why people did not want a supermarket is the effect that a store of this sort would have on the traffic in Worcester Road and surrounding roads, which are already being used as rat runs to avoid the ever present traffic jams. Even the Fire Brigade had voiced concern. I note that neither correspondent in Your Letters lives in the vicinity of Worcester Road and immediate area.

I know of no other supermarket in the area that has direct access on and off a main road.

Any supermarket on this site with lengthy opening hours would also cause noise and light pollution in what is mainly a residential and a Conservation Area.
