UNUSUAL Christmas cards are being sold by Upton Deanery to raise funds for a Nairobi school.

A competition asking schoolchildren to design cards with an African theme was run by joint appeal co-ordinator Lambert Bignell as part of the deanery's Anajali School Appeal.

The best entries have been professionally printed and are now being sold to raise cash for equipment and facilities for Anajali. Around £6,000 has been raised already from other fundraising activities, including dance and craft workshops and a collection during a special Upton Jazz Festival church service.

Competition winners were Amlie Pradel, five, of cole Active Bilangue in Paris, Elizabeth Whatmore, six, and Lucy Taylor, nine, both pupils at Pendock CE School, and Catherine Davies, 11, of King's School in Worcester.

Mr Bignell thanked all the children who took part and the Upton-based sponsors Permadoor and Door Panels plc, who contributed towards printing and packaging costs. The cards can be purchased for £5 per 10-pack on 01684 594272.
