THE doomed attempts of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society to stage a 'unique' production of Macbeth caused great hilarity among the audience at Colwall Village Hall.

In their attempts to go through to the West Midlands final of the regional drama competition (in Leamington Spa, no less), the production showed that whatever can go wrong, will, in amateur dramatics. Props collapsed, lines were forgotten, sets were constructed back to front and calamity ruled ok.

Thankfully, this display of ineptitude was excellently carried out by the Colwall Players, throwing themselves wholeheartedly into a great production.

Particular mention must go to the excellent Adrian Mealing as Henry, the handyman seconded into the role of Lady Macbeth at the last minute. Angela Meredith as the ruthless glory-seeker Thelma and Marilyn Middleton as the shortsighted and hapless Dawn also provoked laughs.

Aside from slightly uncomfortable seating, a highly amusing evening in a village with more than its fair share of theatrical talent.
