DESPITE a disappointing attendance at the musical evening held at Berrow Church last Saturday evening by The Benefice Choir, those of us who braved the elements were well rewarded with a wide repertoire of music by great composers. The musical directors were Angela Gabbott and June Sullivan and the talented accompanist was Giles Turner.
The performance started with Alleluia by Wolfgang Mozart and the evening ended with Pie Jesu by Andrew Lloyd Webber, sung by the combined choirs. A request was made for an encore so by agreement the choir sang Libira me (this was actually a favourite of Les Williams) in whose memory the evening was dedicated.
A glass of wine was enjoyed during the interval and a total of £238 was raised and will be divided between the Acorn Children's Hospital and the Benefice Choir. An evening to cherish and remember.
