NUISANCE skateboarders practising their sport on Tesco car park have prompted parish councillors to look at potential sites for a skateboard park.

Members of St Peter's Parish Council suggested looking at land near Duck Brook, which could be used for a skateboard development.

They said the site, which runs by St Peter's Drive and Bath Road, would be just one of the open spaces to be looked at.

"We've had people concerned about skateboarding at Tesco," said Bob Jenkins, clerk to the parish.

Mr Jenkins said skateboarders were causing a problem by Lloyds Pharmacy, next to St Peter's Village Hall.

"They say somebody is going to get hurt," he said.

At the beginning of last month, the Evening News reported how Worcester Mayor Coun Robert Rowden asked parish members to look at a parking area near the Ketch pub.

Coun Rowden made his comments after it emerged cash-strapped youth group Angels in Exile, which provided the estate's youngsters with portable ramps, had to put its service on hold.

He suggested looking at some draft proposals for the new Worcester skateboard site at Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club in Droitwich Road.

"It might be worth going along and having a look to pick up some ideas," he said.

After the parish meeting, chairman Roger Knight said Duck Brook was not suitable for a skateboarding site as it was too near two busy roads.

And he insisted the parish council was only looking at options at the moment and that the skateboarders facility was currently just an idea.

"If we did go ahead, we would design it with what youngsters want in mind," he said.
