A RETIRED solicitor drowned after falling into a canal and suffering chest and neck injuries, an inquest heard.
Worcestershire coroner Victor Round recorded a verdict of accidental death on 64-year-old Nicholas Grazebrook, of Steps Cottage, Wolverley.
He and his wife Jane were travelling the Birmingham and Worcestershire Canal at Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove, in a narrowboat on August 20.
She said he had left the boat and gone on ahead when she heard him cry out.
Mrs Grazebrook said her husband, who was always in a hurry, must have slipped as he crossed a lock gate.
She had attempted to resuscitate him but he was later pronounced dead at Redditch's Alexandra Hosp-ital.
Mr Round said drowning was the cause of death but added trauma to the neck and chest had been "contributory factors".
