FLAMES were leaping from the top of Beckford Church tower when the vicar's wife, Mrs W G B Snell, looked across the churchyard from the vicarage at about 8am on Thursday. Firecrews from Evesham and Pershore were called to deal with the blaze, which partially destroyed the church tower roof and damaged the belfry. A renovation scheme costing £570 had just been completed but had not been paid for and the vicar, Mr W G B Snell, said he would launch an appeal at the end of the year.
