ONE of the finest military bands in the world will be playing a special concert at Stratford Civic Hall next month.

The United States Army Europe Band are appearing at the Rother Street entertainment venue for one-night only, two days prior to taking part in the Birmingham Tattoo.

The band, which was formed in 1940, is, together with its partner group, the US Army Europe Soldiers' Chorus, the US Army's third largest musical organisation and the biggest outside the States.

The band, which includes a 65-piece concert and marching band, a 35-member ceremonial group and a 19 piece "Soldiers of Swing" jazz ensemble, is stationed at the Tompkins Barracks in Schwetzingen, Germany under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier.

It also has smaller performing groups, including the Rhein River Ramblers dixieland jazz band and Night Fire pop/rock group.

Concert producer Norman Rogerson is delighted that the band has agreed to perform in Stratford.

"We have managed to secure this world class band for this very special concert, which will help foster international relations using the global language of music," said Norman.

The concert is at Stratford Civic Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 21. Tickets are on sale priced between £9.50 to £11.50 with concessions for senior citizens and under 16s. Call the box office on 01789 414513 for further details.
