AS chairman of the Single Task Group I would like to say emphatically that no member of the Health Concern group has been 'led by the nose' - as implied by other political groups - over bringing Wyre Forest District Council on to a single site (Shuttle/Times and News, October 24).

We acted professionally in giving the recommendations to the executive committee to reject the Morbaine Business Park, Green Street, formerly Victoria Carpets offices and warehouses, as the council's headquarters.

While I fully support the single site project and fully appreciate the advantages it would offer to the officers, members and the community, I could not put my name to an outdated Victorian building, totally unsuitable for the purpose, and situated outside the town centre of Kidderminster, as a good investment and value for money.

I would like to see a single site uniting all the departments, a site we could be proud of, and still be proud of as we advance through this century and a building our next generation will feel happy about.

The task group has not been idle and we strive to make the right decision for all concerned, as is our commitment as elected ward members.

Enough time has been wasted!

This has been on the cards since 1974, but suddenly Health Concern, only in administration since May 2002, get the blame!

We can do the job, but let us move on swiftly and get the job done.

Contrary to Councillor Fran Oborski's prediction that the rejection of the Morbaine Business Park would be folly for the council, I feel that Health Concern have saved Wyre Forest from the embarrassment of a white elephant we cannot afford.

MAUREEN ASTON
