IAN Britton is determined to keep his players on the right track after Kidderminster Harriers' best display in his years at the club.

The delighted manager lavished praise upon Tuesday's stunning 4-0 drubbing of struggling Swansea, Harriers' biggest Football League win.

They have climbed to a record second position in Division Three and now have a big game at fellow high-fliers Torquay on Saturday.

And Britton declared: "I have been at the club for 10 to 11 years and that is one of the best performances I have seen from a first-team game.

"We were brilliant, absolutely superb, and at times Swansea just couldn't get the ball off us.

"The team is getting better and better. I really didn't think we would get this far so quickly.

"You have got to give the players all the credit. They have done everything asked of them and have responded well in training."

Harriers, who also beat Cambridge United 2-1 at home on Saturday, have won the last five away games but Britton wants his men to maintain the consistent level they have found.

He continued: "It's a long season and we are only 16 league games in.

"We have got to keep our feet firmly on the ground and, though it may be an old clich, take one game at a time.

"To be honest, we are over-achieving. It's a small snowball that's starting to get bigger and we have to allow it to keep going.

"The belief in the camp is superb. But you will find a lot of things will start to revolve around injuries and suspensions.

"We haven't had a great deal yet but with the winter months we will. We've only got a small squad and a very young one as well."

There are a couple of concerns after Tuesday with Danny Williams having an x-ray on suspected cracked ribs.

The midfield anchorman is a doubt for Torquay along with Craig Hinton (ankle) but both players will be monitored tomorrow.

Adie Smith (hamstring) is already out but Britton believes the likes of Dean Bennett and Sean Parrish are ready to pounce.

He said: "They carried on where the others left off after coming on at Swansea.

"They are itching to play and Benno was unfortunate to be left out after starting on Saturday.

"Everybody wants to get into the team but everyone in the team wants to keep their place."

Torquay are fifth in the table after an eye-catching 4-0 midweek beating of promotion chasers Bournemouth.

The victory followed some erratic results for the Gulls, including a 4-1 home defeat to Hull and a 5-1 thrashing at Scunthorpe.

Britton added: "Torquay must be doing something right as league positions don't lie. It will be a tough game."

Meanwhile, Matt Lewis fired a reminder of his ability with a hat-trick for Evesham in their 5-4 win over Redditch on Tuesday.

The teenager has joined the Dr Martens League side on loan for a month.
