AN "amazing" response to the launch of a CD featuring dramatic wartime accounts from Wyre Forest veterans means production will be doubled.

The discs, the first of their kind in the country, are due to go on sale next week in aid of the Royal British Legion - but almost 400 copies have already been ordered following last week's front page coverage from the Shuttle/Times and News.

Now promoter Simon Blunt has said the original run of 1,000 will double and added it would be a "great option" to repeat the scheme across the country.

He would like to see the first batch sold before it was due to hit the shelves on Monday - and sell the second consignment by Remembrance Sunday on November 10 to raise thousands of pounds.

The Royal British Legion supports ex-service personnel and their dependants.

"It's gone extremely well. Thanks are due to the Shuttle/Times and News for getting all these pre-orders," Mr Blunt said.

"We have sold just over 300 CDs so far and we're still receiving phone calls every day. We've had calls from as far away as Reading."

Ray Whitehouse, who co-produced the CD with his son John, has also sold advance copies, bringing the total to just under 400.

Mr Blunt added: "We hope it will go national to make as much money for the Royal British Legion as possible."

"There are still some amazing people out there with some amazing stories to sell.

"It's about time they were told."

The experiences of the 11 Second World War veterans, including men captured by the Japanese and those who mounted RAF raids on Berlin, feature on the CD and in an eight-page booklet.

Fagins Bookstore in the Rowland Hill Centre and Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley libraries will stock the CDs, which cost £4.99, and can be ordered through Mr Blunt on 01562 865444. All profits go to the Royal British Legion.
