FRIENDS of tragic five-year-old Lelaina Hall gathered to plant flowers in a memorial garden at her Worcester school.

Bulbs were planted at Oldbury Park Primary School, St John's, by BBC Hereford & Worcester staff and school friends as part of a memorial garden to the youngster.

She died in June after becoming trapped in mudflats on a family holiday near Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

The garden was one of six sites in Worcestershire and Herefordshire to be stocked with spring bulbs after listeners were invited to nominate the most deserving areas for planting.

The work is the brainchild of the radio station's Action Desk, run in partnership with the BBC and Community Service Volunteers, which celebrates its 40th birthday this year.

"The planing went really well and it was a lovely thing to be involved with," said Mary Johns, Action Desk producer at BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"We did a live broadcast from the school on Tuesday and were there for the first of the bulb plantings."
