FLORAL tributes have been laid at the spot where a young couple died in a fireball crash.

Police have not yet released the names of the Worcestershire couple who died in the crash as attempts to identify them have been hampered by the fact their car burst into flames.

However, the 19-year-old girl is thought to come from Worcester and the 20-year-old man from Great Malvern.

The couple, who were in a Vauxhall Corsa, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened on Sunday, at about 11pm.

Flowers dedicated to 'Karl and Vicky' have been laid at the spot where they died, on the A38 just north of Coombe Hill, between Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. Cotswold coroner Lester Maddrell is expected to open an inquest into the couple's deaths today.

Three cars were involved in the smash. The male driver of a Volkswagen Passat, who had to be pulled from the wreckage of his car, remains in a critical condition in Cheltenham General Hospital.

The driver of the third car, a Volkswagen Golf, escaped with minor injuries.

A full investigation is now being carried out and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
