RE: The article 'Dish plan submitted for town mast' (Malvern Gazette, October 18), this leaves me very angry.

The mast was erected some time ago after it was given planning permission by Malvern Hills District Council despite protests by the people it purports to represent. The mast now has a myriad of transmitter dishes on it, covering a wide variety of signals, from a selection of companies. Because of its location it really is a valuable site hence the regular applications to add dishes on to it.

It might be thought that, although we are the among the unlucky 20 per cent of the population unable to receive Channel 5, that practically living on top the TV transmitters would at least afford us the best signal possible for the other four analogue channels. This is not the case because we have 'ghosting' on BBC 1, poor reception on BBC2 and Channel 4.

If you are lucky enough to be able to tune into Sutton Coldfield or Ridge Hill then all well and good, yet those transmitters are not even in our county let alone our town.

This was not always the case. Apparently, a couple of years ago a digital dish was approved by our council which affected the analogue signals and particularly Channel 4. I spoke to Channel 4 at the time and they informed me that they had applied to the district council to be allowed to install some equipment to the mast to correct the problem.

I feel that now Crown Castle has once again asked for permission to erect another dish on its mast that it is time to object to that application.

Crown Castle should be prepared to allow alterations, with planning approval, to the TV transmitters which would afford decent TV signal to the populace in the area in which it earns its funds.
