A WOMAN who has supported a charity for more than a quarter-of-a-century has been honoured for her commitment.

Myra Orme, of Kidderminster, became involved in the annual Poppy Appeal because her in-laws used to help the Royal British Legion's town branch.

She has raised more than £2,000 for the appeal after 30 years of taking part in house-to-house and street collections.

And to show appreciation for her efforts, she received a legion medal from Kidderminster Mayor Ken Stokes at a ceremony at the town hall on Tuesday.

The 60-year-old cleaner said: "To have a medal is absolutely amazing. I'm very thrilled and very honoured. I shall keep on collecting money for such a good cause."

Mrs Orme was joined by six other Kidderminster fund-raisers who have supported the appeal for 10 years.

Housewife Joan Dewdney, Swan Centre manager Margaret Moon, Rowland Hill Shopping Centre manager Phil Dunn and his assistant Ray Whitehouse, Red Man licensee Richard Burgess, and James Cullen from the Old Bear, all received certificates.

Appeal organiser Stan Voss said: "We try and cover as many places as we can, and people have been very supportive."

"The awards are a simple way of remembering and saying thank-you to those who support us over a number of years."
