STREET lights on the mini-roundabout at Franche in Kidderminster were flattened by a bus on Tuesday afternoon.

Retired carpet worker Tony Osborne was in his Bridgnorth Road garden when he heard the sound of crunching metal.

"A coach was coming from the Bewdley direction and was halfway round the island when the brakes failed on a second coach following behind," said the retired carpet worker.

"One of the drivers told me he had to avoid a collision by going straight over the island.

"It was lucky there were no passengers because the lamp-post came down through one of the windows of the first bus."
