I'VE done it - my sponsored cycle ride that you kindly featured in your edition of October 10.

I intended to do it on Sunday but in view of the vile weather forecast I decided to go on Saturday instead.

I set off at 9.42am and arrived in Worcester one hour and five minutes later, having averaged 11.5 mph. The return trip was slower (it's uphill - try it on a bike!) and took one hour and 10 minutes.

The response to my appeal for my mayoral charities - Kemp Hospice and Wyre Forest CAB - was magnificent. It has raised so far £925.43.

As you stated in the article I toured 28 pubs and clubs in Stourport to collect donations and found the process both elevating and humbling.

Elevating because people were so kind and generous. Two or three pubs held karaokes or quizzes and I received a round of applause on departure.

Humbling because some people would quietly tell me that they had been helped by the CAB or that a loved one had spent their last days in a hospice.

I wish to thank, most sincerely, everybody who made this venture such a success - the landlords and landladies, bar staff and, of course, all of those who contributed money.

I have had collecting tins at Pete's Prints and Mr Cleancall's in Stourport for people who telephoned me with contributions and I will leave these in situ for a couple more weeks in case anyone wishes to help me make it £1,000.
