IT is small wonder the Kidderminster Male Choir is so popular, as they have such a broad repertoire, with something to please everyone.

From Welsh hymns, and German songs, to opera, Some Enchanted Evening, and Memory from Cats, the choir were in excellent voice.

One highlight was Schubert's beautiful setting of Psalm 23, and I have never heard them sing Bohemian Rhapsody better than they did on Saturday.

There was no doubt which the audience liked best, and I agree, it was great - a Miller Medley, featuring such as In the Mood and Moonlight Serenade, which brought cheers and cries of "encore".

Wyre Forest singer Beth Dunn was accompanied by Sara Weaver on piano, but her choice of songs did not how her voice off to the best advantage, until she sang a verse of Morte Criste, when we heard her voice at its best.

I did enjoy her version of Nice Work if You Can Get It, but her voice is not mature enough to tackle opera. I didn't enjoy Over the Rainbow - the original is beautiful, so why mess about with it?

I was very impressed by Sara. She not only plays the piano well, but writes songs as well - two of which Beth performed.

As always, this was a happy and relaxed concert, the choir obviously enjoying themselves every bit as much as the audience.

They were under the watchful eye of musical director Justin Parker, accompanied by the ever-reliable Maureen Bowkett, and adding to the fun was compere Howard Vaughan, who doesn't always get the introductions right, but no-one minds!

Once again a very enjoyable concert.
