COFFEE MORNING: The final result of the Macmillan coffee morning held at Breslau, Leys Road recently has now been announced - a magnificent £950. The delighted organisers, Sophie Dodds and Fran Webb, extend their thanks for the generous and unfailing support which has made this possible. Another double event (morning coffee, evening wine and cheese) will be held at the same address on Thursday, October 31, this time in aid of the village hall appeal.

PARISH COUNCIL: The meeting held last Wednesday evening began with an angry resident seeking answers to a question in connection with the recent meeting of the county council planning committee which he had attended and at which it was said that the members of that particular committee had not been kept informed by Wychavon of the progress of the Windmill Fishing Lakes problem. He continued to press county coun Clive Holt on this matter until the chairman felt he had to draw the public forum to a close, but it was clear that the questioner was far from satisfied with the answers he had received and very annoyed that he was not able to continue with his interrogation.

The meeting proper began with the announcement that coun Jean McClymont has had to resign from her position on the council because of the increasing seriousness of her husband's illness. Great sympathy was expressed to both of them and a very warm tribute paid to Mrs McClymont for her conscientious work on the council.

Planning applications took up considerable time, particularly that concerning the Brickyard Cottages area where two workers' dwellings and an extension to a barn have been applied for. There was concern about the likelihood of an increased level of activity and the actual use to which the barn will be put. Wychavon Planning Committee is to be asked to look further into the Environmental Input angle. The application for two cottages to be constructed at the corner of Brookedale was strongly objected to, it being felt that traffic and car parking at that spot is already sufficiently hazardous.

In discussing the Fishing Lakes which was again on the agenda, coun Joyce White expressed her dismay that at the last meeting, at which she was not present, fellow councillors had agreed to a request to increase visibility of the site from the main road and her fear was that this would mean the taking out of the hedge. It was agreed that this had not been intended and an urgent order should be made to tidy and reduce the height of the hedge but not remove it.

A letter had been received from the chairman of the village hall management committee thanking the council for its invaluable help in the matter of its present expenses. Coun Seager gave details of the latest fund-raising effort on Thursday, October 31, praising Mrs Sophie Dodds for her readiness to respond to the committee's request for help.

Notice was given of the district council's plans for a fortnightly mobile recycling service and while serious doubts were expressed about the possible difficulties which could arise in putting it into practice, it was decided to give the scheme a trial before making a final agreement to accept it on a regular basis.
