REDDITCH'S misery deepened at the weekend with a 30 -12 defeat which dumped them out of the Powergen Junior Vase at the second hurdle.

The Kingfishers were playing their first tie in the national competition after first round opponents Chaddesley Corbett withdrew.

And at home to side from their Powergen North Midlands One division, Redditch reverted to type to lose to second placed Worcester Wanderers, their fifth consecutive defeat.

Although Redditch were never likely to win the Vase, player-coach Cameron Waghorn had stated an intention to win as many ties in the competition as possible but will be left directing matters from the sidelines in the league on Saturday.

The Bromsgrove Road side sit second from bottom of the table and are already four points adrift of third from bottom Stourport.

Waghorn's troops have lost to Stourport, Bromyard and Woodrush already this season the teams immediately above them in the league and entertain the next weakest side they have yet to play - Veseyans - at home on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Defeat could leave them with a mountain to climb to beat the drop just four matches into the season.
