An active worker in many public organisations, Mr John W C Bird, of Norfolk Place, Crabbs Cross, died at his home last Friday. He was in his 76th year.
He was a member of Redditch Urban District Council for a short time and was secretary of the local nursing association for 25 years.
He served on the committee of the Hospital Flower Show, was a manager of Crabbs Cross Council School, which he attended as a boy, and a warden on the Civil Defence Organisation.
At one time he was president of the Wesley Guild and was a member and trustee of the Crabbs Cross Methodist Chapel.
