I WOULD be pleased if you would publish the following inquiry concerning Preston Church, which is two miles west of Ledbury and next to Preston Court.
I have long been seeking any information relating to Preston Church, historical or factual. The only reference I have so far is some brief reference to the carvings above the entrance door, dating back to Norman times. Were the family burial vaults adapted from an existing crypt? When was the first interment and how many are buried there now?
My grandmother and her sisters gave a graphic description of the detail of the entrance, which they saw at the interment of their father, Robert Passey, in February 1876. The entrance is now, alas, obscured. However the 'S' in Passey uses the old English form which resembles an 'F'. I would be interested in an explanation as to why the form of script was used.
