I AM writing to you on behalf of the Divisional Commander for the Salvation Army in the West Midlands in response to the article in the Stratford Journal on Thursday August 15.

The Salvation Army, West Midlands Division, would wish to respond to the content of the article in the Stratford Journal dated Thursday August 15 headed "Salvation Army Centre Closes after One Hundred and Fifteen Years". Although it is true that the congregation has reduced in numbers and become elderly, it was not a suspension of activity just due to the lack of an Officer (Minister); however, the situation has meant that it is timely to reassess the Army's position in Stratford and a survey is needed to ensure the best use of resources is made. In the meantime, it would be helpful if readers would contact Salvation Army Headquarters for the West Midlands on 0121 507 8500 if they would be interested in involvement in the work and worship of The Salvation Army in the future. We would particularly seek help at this time with The Salvation Army's annual Door to Door Appeal which commences on September 14 and continues to September 28. If any of your readers would wish to volunteer, details can be obtained on the telephone number already quoted. We hope that this brings some reassurance to your readers with regards to the future of The Salvation Army in Stratford.

ROBERT F PEPPIATT, DMS AMIPR, Major, Divisional Director for Public Relations.
