A FECKENHAM woman and her young family escaped injury as a fire ripped through her terraced home, killing her pet dog.
Becky Rich was taking her two children to primary school as flames gutted the High Street property on Wednesday morning.
Mrs Rich was cooking bacon and eggs for her boy and girl when there was a power cut in Feckenham at about 7.15am, and left the pan on the stove.
The power returned while she was on the school run and the abandoned pan started the fire before 8.30am.
Fire engines attended from Redditch and Droitwich, along with a ladder turntable from Worcester and an incident support unit from Droitwich.
The fire also spread to the roof space of the houses either side causing substantial damage, but did not spread to the rest of the two buildings.
The family were moved to a hostel in Webheath until alternative accommodation can be found.
A Redditch firefighter confirmed the dog had been buried but a pet cat had not been found and a birdcage was discovered open so the family budgerigar could have escaped.
Town MP Jacqui Smith has now called for an urgent meeting with electricity suppliers GPU following successive power cuts in Astwood Bank and Feckenham.
Ms Smith met previously with the company and was assured improvements would be made but she claims they failed to live up to their assurances and has demanded another meeting.
