PLANS to redevelop Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, home of the Royal Show, as an international visitor and education centre, have won strong initial support.
Detailed plans are now being drawn up by the Royal Agricultural Society of England for a planning application to be submitted, to include proposals for an international equine centre, a rural sciences and technology park and a centre of excellence for the livestock industry.
Mike Calvert, RASE chief executive, said: "Our plans seem to have captured the imagination of the public, particularly the farmers. The great majority of people we spoke to believe we all need to know more about the food chain, and that will be a main objective of our redevelopment plans, combining education with fun."
The Open Country Initiative exhibition outlining the scheme was on display during the Royal Show last month and will be open again during the Town and Country Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
