FOUR members of Powick Bowls Club, Joan and Michael Butler, Trevor and Jean Arnold competed in the Weston Open Bowls Tournament with considerable success.

Contesting the Open Fours competition they won their group to qualify for the last four on finals day.

Qualification for the four prize winning teams was decided by number of matches won and by number of shots scored. The Powick quartet were unfortunate that time lost in an earlier round when their opponents arrived late cost them valuable shots and a place in the absolute final.

Consequently the Powick four found themselves playing off for third place, a game they won convincingly 40-15 to complete an enjoyable week's bowling.

Meanwhile, the Worcester club entertained their sixth and final tourists of the season when Plymouth Tourists visited Wood Terrace, but the home side found the visitors in fine form and went down by 34 shots.

After an evenly matched eight ends Plymouth then picked up a 'five' and two threes to take a 15 shots lead at the half way stage. The visitors continued picking up shots and after scoring two fours and two more threes took a commanding lead of 30 shots after 15 ends.

Plymouth made sure of victory when on the following end one rink just failed to record a 'maximum' when they picked up a "seven".

Worcester only recorded two winnings rinks when Colin Hemming's four came from behind to win by four shots.

In another close game Tony Russell's rink ran out winners by two shots.

The rink skipped by Barry Deamer was involved in a low scoring encounter when a total of only 23 shots were scored, and for the first fifteen ends only singles were recorded before the visitors picked up two twos.
