WESTFIELDS maintained their unbeaten start to their West Midlands League Premier Division campaign with a fine 3-0 away win at Brierley Hill & Hagley last night.

A devastating second-half display means the Hereford club stay hot on the heels of the league leaders Little Drayton Rangers.

In an opening first-half both defences were on top and neither side could break the deadlock although both Matt Beale and Chris Jefferson went close for Westfields.

After the break Westfields broke through on the hour when Kevin Jinks raced into the Brierley Hill penalty area only to be brought down by Mark Wilkinson. Skipper Mark Hibbard hit a superbly taken penalty.

This gave Westfields a lift and they began to play with more confidence.

Deflected

Eight minutes later James Watkins cut in from the left and fired in a cross which was deflected into his own net by James Perry.

John Pugh then twice saved well as the home side battled back, but Westfields put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd minute.

Chris Jefferson raced clear on the left and his pin-point cross was met by a diving header by Derek Craddock which flew into the top corner of the net to give Westfields a 3-0 lead.

Jefferson then squandered a great chance to make it four when he delayed his shot.

* Malvern Town and Wellington shared the spoils in a 1-1 West Midlands League Premier Division game at Wellington last night.

It was the least Town deserved after dominating the game for long periods.

Malvern almost took the lead on 18 minutes, when Lee Goodman's shot rattled the post.

Wellington had rarely threatened up to this point, but in the 35th minute Town marked poorly from a corner and the Herefordshire side the lead.

Rick Halion, Darren Wade and Hooper all had second-half chances to equalise for Malvern, but just when it looked as though it was going to be one of those nights, Halion scored an 80th minute equaliser.

* Bromyard Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat when they visited bottom of the table Lye Town in the West Midlands League Premier Division last night.
