THE new electoral register form offers everyone the choice to be just on the version of the register used for election purposes, and to "opt out" of the "edited" edition of the register, which is available for sale.
Everyone's first reaction is bound to be "great, let's opt out - it will mean less junk mail".
That is fine for most people, but please remember, being on the electoral register is one of the criteria used by some credit agencies for approving loans and purchase agreements.
People who have only limited means of establishing credit worthiness might like to think twice before taking themselves off the "edited" register.
