BEACON bonfires lit by Countryside Alliance members as part of their Liberty and Livelihood campaign on Monday night sparked 16 false call-outs for Hereford and Worcester fire brigade crews.
Callers raising the alarm did not realise the fires were part of a chain of beacons to demonstrate the strength of support for the campaign, which will include a march by hundreds of thousands of people in London this Sunday.
Among places where beacons were lit were Ashton-under-Hill, Broadway, Childswickham, Great Comberton and Willersey.
Firework rockets were also let off in addition to the lighting of the bonfires.
