MARTIAL ARTS: Tsunami sent their best Great Britain Squad members to do battle at the bi-annual World Karate Championships of Shukokai Karate International (SKI).

It was many members' first taste of the standard expected at world level as 16 countries met at Birmingham's NIA over two gruelling days of competition.

Great Britain had a fantastic win against Portugal to retain the coveted men's team kumite title.

And Kidderminster club Tsunami did their country proud with Adam Ziubrzynski winning silver at his first international in boys' kumite for 10 to 11 years.

Stourport's Jennie Price took bronzes in individual kata for 14 to 15 years and in team kata for 14 to 17 years with Kara Bennett and Emily Powell, both of Bewdley.

Stephanie Hatch, Sophie Powell and sensei Dave Powell also competed against stiff opposition.

The prolific sensei Solfrid Daniels brought in a haul of medals with silver in the individual kata, gold in the team kata, gold in the individual kumite heavyweight and bronze in the team kumite.

International karate stars will be on the doorstep on Saturday, September 28, at the Glades Arena for the Kimura Cup.
