INKBERROW SHOW: The hard work, patience and expertise of members of Inkberrow and District Horticultural Society received warm thanks from the Chairman, Tom Hodgkinson, on the occasion of the annual fruit, flower and vegetable show which was held at Inkberrow Village Hall.

Mr Hodgkinson said that the weather had not been at its best this year resulting in flowers reaching their prime condition two weeks before the show and vegetables proving difficult to prise from the rock hard earth. Mr Duncan Coombs, the main judge, praised the excellent standard of the exhibits siting in particular the fuschias and gloxinias and expressing his amazement at the size of the cabbages. He went on to say that he was always most impressed by the celery class as he knew of no other society who were able to grow this to show standard. As for the Best in Show Khol Rabi, he admitted he had never seen one like it during his years as a show judge.

Mrs Ann Derbyshire, judging the cookery section, made special mention of the wine classes, which she said were superb.

The staging of the show just a few days into the new school term, when children and parents were coping with new classes and schools, had resulted in only one entry being made for the children's classes. The handwriting class, having been completed at school during the summer term, attracted more than 90 entries.

Mr Hodgkinson then thanked visitors and members for their contribution in making the show a success and gave special thanks to Mrs Pat Atkin, former chairman, for the help and support she had given him during his first year in office.

The cups were than presented by Mrs Atkin and the raffle organised by Mr Harry Betteridge was drawn. Members also provided a plant stall and refreshments for visitors.
