TEAMS are being sought to take part in a sporting battle between Wyre Forest's 13 parishes next year.

The 2003 Wyre Forest Parish Games will be launched with a quiz night and information evening at Stourport Sports Club on Monday, October 7.

The games, which will be held in May and June, will see teams go head to head in archery, golf, rounders, crib, dominoes, bridge, fishing, short mat bowls and snooker.

Ken Stokes, Mayor of Kidderminster and the district councils' portfolio holder for community life, described the games as "an excellent vehicle for promoting community participation and involvement". golfer Lesley Fox in training at Kidderminster Golf Club for next year's Parish Games.

Council development officer Amy Smith said there had been "a considerable amount of interest" in next year's competition.

But she appealed for more people to come forward to represent their parishes.

"An event like this can only be judged to be a success if the public are willing to take part," Mrs Smith added.

"It is an exciting initiative in that it encourages communities to join together and compete in a friendly and sociable environment. We already have co-ordinators from some of the parishes and are now seeking support from others."
