A CAMPAIGN by Worcester MP Mike Foster to visit areas of his constituency to discuss issues affecting local residents has reaped early dividends, following a trip to Red Hill.

Mr Foster took his Down Your Way campaign to Kilbury Drive late last month where residents complained about the state of the footpath outside shops.

Lorries had destroyed paving, they said, making it dangerous for those walking.

The Labour MP wrote to Worcester City Council about the problem and, within days, the area had been resurfaced.

"I am delighted to see such an early success from walking the streets of Worcester," he said.

"My county council colleague Rob Peachey joined me and between us we picked up a wide range of problems that existed. For the local residents, and ourselves, it is a case of one down, more to go."

He added that he was pleased with the city council's quick response.

"I am grateful to the council for acting so swiftly on this matter, but they will know from their post bag there is still much to do in the area."

He said other pressing issues included speeding traffic, the danger of the traffic near Whittington Primary School, and traffic crossings on the Spetchley Road.

"Rob and I will continue to press for these issues to be dealt with," he pledged.

Successful scheme

"Down your way has proved to be a successful scheme, with residents genuinely pleased to see their MP, supported by Labour councillors and campaigners taking the time and trouble to seek their views not just at election time, but in the autumn - indeed, all year round."

Mr Foster has since continued his Down Your Way campaign with a visit to Warndon, Rainbow Hill, Rose Hill and St John's, and is planning more visits to other areas of the city.
